The first Iranian in the Olympics

The first Iranian in the Olympics

The first Iranian to compete in the Olympics (Paris 1900) was a fencer.

During the Qajar dynasty, when the name "Persia" was used by foreigners for Iran and Mozaffar al-Din Shah was the first person in the country, he introduced the son of "Mirza Malkom Khan Nazim al-Dawla", who was in charge of the Iranian embassy in several European countries, to participate in the 1900 Olympics, and thus the first Iranian Olympian went to France. "Fereidoun Mirza Malkom" was a student who participated as the first Iranian Olympian in the second Olympic Games and competed with his opponents in the epee fencing competitions. Of course, before he participated in these games, his father received the honorary title of "Prince" from the Shah in exchange for a diamond ring. Thus, Iran, or Persia, was represented in the second Olympic Games, which is said to have had 28 countries participate in.
